Matt Goyer’s Media Center Blog » MCE competitor

Matt Goyer’s Media Center Blog » MCE competitor: "
CRN talks about A Linux Alternative To Windows Media Center PCs. Looks like it has a lot of features, but:
Video Without Boundaries also is hoping for success with the low price of its products. PCs running Windows Media Center cost between $1,200 and $4,000, while the MediaReady 5000 costs $699.
Hmmmm. You can now get a MCE w/tuner for around $650. "

Variety.com - Netflix thinks inside the box

Variety.com - Netflix thinks inside the box: "Netflix VP of original programming Eric Besner revealed on Friday some of the online rental service's thinking on the movie download bizbiz, saying Netflix is planning to introduce a proprietary set-top box with an Internet connection that can download movies overnight.
Speaking at an Independent Film & Television Alliance production conference in Beverly Hills, Besner said the business model is still being worked out, but the download service likely would be offered in return for the subscription fee members pay for conventional DVD rentalsrentals. Service could launch as early as this year.
Users would add movies they want to watch to their rental queue online as they do now, and those movies would then be downloaded to the boxes overnight rather than shipped through the mail."

TechCrunch » Blog Archive » Get Voicemail In Your Email Inbox: GotVoice: "It doesn’t have a fancy design or well throught through navigation. I can’t find a single use of Ajax or javascript on the site (although there is some use of Flash). And that’s ok, because GotVoice does something I love - it converts voicemails from my home and cell phone into MP3s and sends them to me by email."

Chris Lanier's Blog : What's New In Media Center on Windows Vista?

Ed Bott’s Media Central » A close-up look at Vista Media Center

Ed Bott’s Media Central » A close-up look at Vista Media Center: "Over at ZDNet, I’ve just published a detailed first look at Windows Vista’s new Media Center. You can read the article here or skip straight to the image gallery.
Overall, I’m pretty impressed with Vista’s Media Center. My main misgiving is the appearance of the dreaded “Restricted Content” error message, which occasionally plagues Media Center Edition 2005. A bug in Beta 2 means you’ll see the blue screen of DRM if you connect your Vista PC to a digital monitor with a DVI cable and then try to watch a copy-protected premium cable or satellite channel."

The F-Stop Blues: New Recorded TV Look and Feel in Media Center Vista

The F-Stop Blues: New Recorded TV Look and Feel in Media Center Vista: "In the latest Windows Vista beta release it looks like they are going to add thumbnail views to your Recorded TV! (via The Green Button) I was hoping that this would be added – I hate having to look at a list of recorded TV shows. I have seen screenshots of MythTV with this functionality and I think it will be pretty slick."
